04 – Light and Shadows
The third project has no fixed location.
It doesn’t need a particular building.
No specific focal length.
It doesn’t even require a particular camera.
It only needs something we encounter everywhere:
Light and shadow.
The idea grew from noticing how increasingly important light is becoming in the way I construct an image.
Not simply as something that makes a subject visible.
But as something that can shape, transform, and sometimes even define an image.
What does light do to a building?
How does shadow change a form?
Can darkness guide the eye more strongly than a bright area?
How much information does an image really need?
What happens when only a small part of a scene remains visible?
And when does a shadow become the actual subject?
I don’t want to answer these questions theoretically.
I want to explore them through photography.
There are no restrictions on location or lens.
Architecture is just as valid as landscape, a detail, a person, or something completely ordinary.
The only common thread is that light and/or shadow must play an essential role in the image.
And perhaps this project will eventually influence the other two.
Maybe I will visit Melaten again and suddenly see something I would have overlooked before.
Maybe I will photograph the Cathedral for “My City” and discover that the light falling across it matters more than the building itself.
That mutual influence is an important part of the idea for me.
The three projects are not separate boxes.
They can overlap.
They can change.
They can create new questions.
And perhaps something will emerge from them that I cannot even name today.
Maybe after a year I will notice that certain visual elements keep appearing in my images.
Maybe after three years.
Maybe never.
And that’s okay.
Because these projects don’t have a predetermined destination.
They are meant to give me room to see, to photograph, to experiment, and to grow.
Perhaps one day I will look back and realize that through these projects I didn’t just photograph places, cities, light, and shadow.
Perhaps I learned, above all, to see differently.
And that, for me, is what my
“Vision Journey”
is really about.
Three projects. Three different paths.
But one shared journey.
Three projects. No deadline. No predetermined result. Just the willingness to keep looking.
